Celebrating LGBTQ+ Paralympians

August 24, 2021 (New York, NY) — Today, the Paralympic Games begin in Tokyo with a record-breaking 30+ out LGBTQ+ athletes, more than double the number at the Rio Paralympics in 2016. Two Athlete Ally Ambassadors are part of Team LGBTQ+: British wheelchair basketball player Robyn Love, and her teammate Jude Hamer.

These groundbreaking athletes are showing the world that LGBTQ+ people belong in every part of life. We celebrate LGBTQ+ Paralympians and their right to be safe, welcome and included in sports. Below, we’re sharing video messages from Singaporean swimmer and Paralympic medalist Theresa Goh and American wheelchair basketball player and Paralympic gold medalist Stephanie Wheeler, both Athlete Ally Ambassadors.
