Athlete Ally Vehemently Supports an NFL Investigation into Derrius Green’s Allegations

Former LSU running back Derrius Guice has said in an interview that one NFL team asked about his sexuality.

NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said in an email to USA TODAY Sports that the league is “looking into the matter.”

“A question such as that is completely inappropriate and wholly contrary to league workplace policies,” McCarthy said. “The NFL and its clubs are committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all employees in a manner that is consistent with our commitment to diversity and inclusion, state and federal laws and the CBA.

Athlete Ally Executive Director Hudson Taylor responded:

We vehemently support an investigation by the NFL into the allegations that a team asked Derrius Guice about his sexual orientation. These questions are discriminatory, have no place in sport, and only further perpetuate a culture of exclusion for the LGBTQ community in athletics. The NFL should take swift action against any team found to be using a player’s sexual orientation as a factor for their interest in any prospect.
