Canadian alpine skier Mike Janyk is hitting the slopes of Austria this coming weekend, competing at the Slalom World Cup in Levi, Finland on November 17.

Mike is no stranger to success on the world stage. He competed at the 2006 and 2010 Olympics, placed second at a World Cup Race in Beaver Creek in 2006, and took home a bronze medal  at the 2009 Skiing World Championship in Val d’Isere.

Mike also happens to be one of the best LGBT advocates out there in the world of sports, and an Athlete Ally Ambassador. His advocacy came to our attention in August of this past year, when he marched in Vancouver Pride in support of the LGBT community, in an effort to spread awareness and acceptance of diversity in response to Russia’s bigoted anti-LGBT laws before of the 2014 Winter Games.

Mike has been an active, vocal ally, and we wish him nothing but success as he prepares for Sochi.
