Following the news of Amar’e Stoudemire’s homophobic comments to reporters, Athlete Ally’s Executive Director Hudson Taylor offered the following statement:
“The homophobic comments from Amar’e Stoudemire are unacceptable and come at a time when the LGBT community needs our support more than ever,” said Hudson Taylor, executive director of Athlete Ally, a nonprofit dedicated to ending homophobia and transphobia through sports. “Athlete Ally remains committed to working with players, teams and leagues to educate and activate the athletic community to stand up and speak out for its LGBT constituents. We hope Amar’e takes this opportunity to realize the negative impact of his comments and invests in the education necessary to make himself and his sport welcoming for all.”
