Athlete Ally Celebrates Wins in Ohio and Connecticut

December 16, 2022 — Today, Athlete Ally celebrated news that the Second Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a student athletic policy in Connecticut allowing transgender students to play on the teams consistent with their gender identity. Together with Lambda Legal, Athlete Ally joined the WNBPA, The Women’s Sports Foundation and 155 athletes in women’s sports on an amicus brief in support of Connecticut’s inclusive policy.

This follows news from yesterday that Ohio’s proposed ban on trans youth athletes has failed, following powerful testimony from Ohio advocates and community members, from Athlete Ally’s Policy and Program Director Anne Lieberman and Athlete Ally Ambassadors Brianna Turner, Lori Lindsey and Pam Boteler. We are incredibly grateful to our partners at Equality Ohio for leading this work, and to Chris Mosier for helping to mobilize advocates across the country.

This is a much-needed reminder, especially as we close out 2022, that none of us have to do this work alone. Across the globe, we have a community of advocates, athletes, coaches, parents and fans who know that sport is at its best when we all have the chance to play, exactly as we are. We are thankful for every single one of you.
