Athlete Ally Applauds David Denson, Teammates, Brewers, and MLB

Today Athlete Ally applauds the courage of David Denson, who made history this weekend by coming out as openly gay — the first active player affiliated with MLB to do so. The organization also applauds the respect and inclusion shown by his teammates, the Brewers, and Major League Baseball (MLB).

“The statements from MLB, the Brewers, and David Denson’s teammates show true leadership and sportsmanship,” said Hudson Taylor, Founder and Executive Director of Athlete Ally, an organization that educates and activates professional athletes to champion LGBT equality. “Sports should be for everyone — and this weekend, the baseball community embodied that inclusion. We are proud of our partnership with MLB, and believe this moment will help lead to even more inclusive sporting communities across the board.

“Today is a day that a lot of people in sports have envisioned: an active player comes out as gay, his teammates quickly tweet genuine statements of support, major leagues welcome him into their clubhouse, and MLB supports him like they support any other player.”
