“I’m honored to receive an Action Award from Athlete Ally,” said Chris Mosier. “When I came out in 2010, I made a commitment to advocate for my rights as a transgender athlete in hopes of making this journey easier for every trans athlete who came after me. As legislative attacks have increased over the past several years, I have watched Athlete Ally step up to fight by my side. I am incredibly proud of the work we’ve been able to accomplish together and hopeful for the change I know we will continue to create in this world.”

Chris Mosier is a trailblazing athlete & activist & was the first known transgender man to make a men’s US national team. He is a 7x member of Team USA, 3x national champion & All-American duathlete & was the first trans person to compete in the Olympic trials in their true gender. He has been called “the man who changed the Olympics” due to his advocacy work; Chris’s website transathlete.com is known as the go-to site for information on trans inclusion policy in sport. Chris uses his platform as the first trans athlete sponsored by Nike to provide visibility, support, and hope to people of all identities in and out of sports. When not fighting the good fight, Chris mentors transgender and non-binary athletes around the world in hopes that he can live by his motto of “be who you needed when you were younger.”

About Athlete Ally and the Action Awards

Athlete Ally believes sport will change the world when it welcomes and empowers all people. As a leading national nonprofit working at the intersection of sport and LGBTQI+ equality, Athlete Ally works to end the structural and systemic oppression that isolates, excludes and endangers LGBTQI+ people in sport. We educate individuals and institutions to understand obstacles to inclusion for LGBTQI+ people and how they can build an inclusive culture within their athletic communities. We work to ensure sport governing bodies, teams and leagues adopt policies that reflect the diversity of their constituents. We incubate athlete activism to advance LGBTQI+ equality in and through sport.

The Action Awards celebrate the groundbreaking actions of organizations and individuals that help create LGBTQI+ inclusive athletic environments and eliminate anti-LGBTQI+ discrimination at large. The generous philanthropy of our dedicated Corporate Sponsors, Host Committees, and Board of Directors make this event possible.
