I’d describe myself as a ‘late bloomer’ in the world of sport and fitness. My internal identity struggles coupled with intolerant coaches and teammates had me faltering at the starting pistol. It wasn’t until later in my twenties when I found the strength to push past the old wounds and embrace the fact that I was an athlete – and that I was good enough. No kid should ever have to wait that long. This is why we need to create safe spaces in our teams, schools, gyms and communities.
