“I came out as a supporter of the LGBT community during my military service in the Marine Corps — even before I came out as LGBT. The “Lift the Ban” movement was my first call to activism. I marched and spoke at rallies. Eventually, I got injured and was discharged from the military. 3 Paralympics and Multiple Guinness World Records for rowing across oceans later, I am still marching and speaking at rallies. Having these incredible accomplishments as a para-athlete has given me a much more far-reaching and effective voice with a broader range of people from all walks of life. Inclusion, equality, and diversity is the armor of champions — wear it with honor!
