Legler, Richards Join Athlete Ally Board of Directors

Today, Athlete Ally welcomed Casey Legler and Nate Richards as the newest members of the Board of Directors. “Casey and Nate each bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise in driving LGBTQ advocacy and systemic change,” said Hudson Taylor, Executive Director of Athlete Ally. “We’re thrilled to have them on the Board, and look forward to what we can build and grow together.”

“I’m thrilled to be joining Athlete Ally’s Board, because I’ve witnessed firsthand the power sport has to unite people with different cultural backgrounds and life experiences, across borders and language barriers,” said Nate Richards. “It’s an incredible honor to join the organization’s efforts to end transphobia and homophobia in sport so that everyone can participate.”

Casey Legler is a former Olympian, writer, activist and groundbreaking nonbinary model. Their best-selling memoir GODSPEED (2018), chronicling their life as a young athlete and Olympian, was called “raw and poetic” by the New York Times. Legler’s writing has appeared in the Guardian, Vogue and New York Magazine. In 2013, Legler ignited conversations about gender by being the first “woman” signed to Ford Models to exclusively model men’s clothes, driving conversations in the public sphere about gender identity and fluidity as we understand and articulate it today. Legler is seasoned public speaker, recently headlining the Sydney Writers Festival to sold out audiences, and has appeared in Time Magazine, on ABC, NBC and The Project, the most watched current affairs program (4 million viewers). Casey’s varied and deep skill also includes 20 years of experience growing and managing New York City’s top restaurants which has given them the foundation to run any organization efficiently and effectively.
